Another beautiful sunny day in Amsterdam! It started with laughing at a funny comment of someone at Facebook, followed by a visit at the district office, signing in at a temp agency at a hospital, grocery shopping and a strange comment that reminds me of the song “Smile” from Charlie Chaplin.
I woke up this morning and listened to the radio a bit, while I checked my email. One of my emails led back to the post from Mark Daniel Read about the Iphone autocorrecting Johnny Depp into Jogging Deep ^^ This morning he added another comment, which made me laugh: “I can't wait to see Jogging Deep in the Pilates of the Caribbean :)”
After a shower and a fail attempt to eat a decent breakfast (if I eat before 10 am I usually feel miserable the rest of the day. Somehow my stomach disagrees with solid food in the morning, but that doesn’t stop me from trying to eat breakfast ^^”), I cycled to the district office. Cold wind was blowing over me and I started to wonder why I didn’t put on a jacket. That thought changed immediately, when I walked into the district office. It was very warm there and filled with people.
Everyone was waiting with a piece of paper, which had in bold a letter and a three digit number on it. I sat down and checked the board every time I heard a ping. I was there to pick up my new ID, so I was pleasantly surprised that I only had to wait half an hour. Still it is quite annoying to check the board every time you hear a ping. It isn’t like at the bakery, where you hear a buzzer and you can predict when it is your turn by counting the amount of buzzer sounds that correspond to the amount of people who are before you in line (does this sound nerdy? A little bit huh?). Counting the amount of people, who will be before you in line isn’t enough because there are other letters involved. Would be nice, if they gave each letter another ping sound… But I guess that wouldn’t really work for the hearing impaired, so why should they bother right?
I went home and a few hours later, I went to the academic hospital where I study Medical Informatics and signed in at the temp agency for part timers. I am going to start working at the endoscopic department tomorrow by filling in for a few nurses and also work partly on their IT systems, I think. I hope that I’ll be able to help them out with whatever they need.
I went home again… Just to change my bag into a backpack to go grocery shopping. The weather is starting to be too warm for my comfort, but I was glad the supermarket was cool. I walked into the local supermarket and thought: “Did I just enter our local supermarket or a new supermarket?” I looked around and the name of the supermarket was hung almost everywhere, so I was definitely at the right place. The whole interior design has changed and there are very nice refrigerators now with sliding doors instead of doors that you need to pull open (sometimes you need quite a lot of power to open those). Also the bread department looked more like a kind of bakery. It has definitely improved its sections, now if only they labelled the alleys on product categories… That would be great!
I walked home with the groceries and felt tired, because of the heat. Than something strange happened… A mail man stared at me and said with a smile: “Smile gorgeous!” He has deep eyes, dark skin, a beautiful half curly grey beard, a middle-aged man wearing a mail man uniform… He didn’t look unfriendly or like a wacko, but the line he said to me was odd. I guess I looked angry or something? Or it is sunny outside, so everyone should smile?
I started to think about the line: “Smile gorgeous!” and it reminded me of the song from Charlie Chaplin. The song is so pretty ♥
♫ Smile tho' your heart is aching,
Smile even tho' it's breaking,
When there are clouds in the sky
You'll get by,
If you smile
thro' your fear and sorrow,
Smile and maybe tomorrow,
You'll see the sun come shin-ing thro' for you
Light up your face with gladness,
Hide ev-'ry trace of sadness,
Al -'tho a tear may be ever so near,
That's the time,
You must keep on trying,
Smile, what's the use of crying,
You'll find that life is still worth-while,
If you just smile... ♫
All in all, I had a nice day. Done my cardio exercise of the day, picked up my new ID (yeah, I don’t have to worry about that anymore), there is grapefruit juice in the refrigerator and Danoontje ^^
