First week at work was fun! I don’t have much to add to that, but I do have a short story to tell.
My tall boss at work is one and half head taller than me and he has a beautiful smile. I hardly see such a broad smile accompanied with smiling eyes, which he has. The short story is about him and it still makes me laugh. If he reads this, I will definitely be embarrassed but I’m telling it anyway because it is just super cute and funny! Perhaps a bit nerdy too o^^o
It was the third day of work I think, I went to the kitchen to get something to drink and I saw someone walk by from the corner of my eye. I heard steps walking back and I heard: “Hey!”
I turned my head to the right and I saw a guy holding the side of the wall of the kitchen. Almost like a little boy being curious and looking around a corner to explore. Except in this case, a tall guy who suddenly looks as tall as me. He looked cute, which was distracting me a bit during the conversation. Just when I thought it couldn’t get worse I realised I had no idea who is talking to me. A cute guy wearing big framed glasses said hey to me? He continued talking and his beautiful smile and eyes made me realise that he was my boss!
I thought: “What a relief, I know who I am talking to…”
But all of a sudden the image of Superman, Clark Kent wearing big dark framed glasses popped into my mind. (My boss doesn’t look like Clark Kent at all nor like Superman, he is blond and isn’t buffed just slim in his thirties and about 2 meters tall. In addition, his character is not like Christopher Reeve’s portrayal of Clark Kent at all.)
I was already smiling broadly from the outside, but now I was laughing out loud in my mind. I couldn’t control myself in my mind! But on the outside I was calm and I stopped staring into his eyes.
Superman! Haha! I saw him briefly Friday and I started laughing in my mind again. He was wearing the glasses again. I hope the Clark Kent image will stop appearing, when I see him wearing the glasses next time. I might burst out laughing “The Giggle Loop”.
A scene from the Coupling episode Sex, Death & Nudity – explaining the Giggle Loop
Jeff: Basically it is like a feedback loop. You're somewhere quiet. There's people. Its a solemn occasion - a wedding. No - it's a minutes silence for someone who's died.
Steve: Right.
Patrick: Got ya.
Jeff: Minute silence ticking away... tick tock tick tock... The giggle loop begins suddenly out of no where this thought comes into your head - The worst thing I could possibly do during a minutes silence is laugh. *Puts a beer glass with its bottom up on a table* And as soon as you think that you almost do laugh, automatic reaction. But you don’t, you control yourself, you’re fine. *exhales* But then you think how terrible it would have been if you had laughed out loud in at a middle of a minute silence so you nearly do it again. Only this time, it is a bigger laugh. *Puts a beer glass on top of the other beer glass on the table* And then you think how awful this bigger laugh would have been. And so you nearly laugh again, only this time it is a very big laugh *puts another beer glass on top of the last one*, it is an enormous laugh let this bastard out and you get a whiplash! *puts another beer glass op top of the last one* And suddenly you are in this completely silent room *took the beer glass that Steve just finished drinking on to the beer glasses* and your shoulders are going like you're drilling the road, and what do you think of the situation? Oh dear Christ! You think its funny!” *waiter walks towards their table*
Waiter: Excuse me, what are you doing?
Jeff: It’s a giggle loop.
Waiter: Its not a loop. It is a stack.
Jeff: Well I couldn’t call it a giggle stack can I? Now could I?
Steve: That would sound ridiculous.
Patrick: Exactly.
*Waiter walks away*
