Men in the elevator
When I just started working at the place, where I am working now I used to see a certain guy a lot in the metro. He looks dashing in his suit and also has a certain walk that is quite appealing. He doesn't have a cute factor, but he is handsome. From the metro we would usually walk to work and be in the elevator up for two floors. The first few weeks we didn't say a word and after that I didn't see him for awhile. Then we saw each other again and there was a "hi" and a "have a great day at work" (in Dutch it is "Werkse", not sure how you translate that in English but this seems similar to it). Many months went by, even seasons. I haven't seen him for quite awhile until last Friday.
I saw a woman at the elevator, who I know by face, so I said: "Good morning", with a smile. We both waited for the elevator, then I heard a "pliep". The sound of the tourniquet, when someone scans a badge on the reader to make the tourniquet turn. I saw the handsome man, once again in a business jacket and suit. I turned around to see whether the elevator has arrived. The woman stepped into the elevator first, I followed and then the man.
The handsome man said: "Good morning", while he stared at me.
I smiled: "Good morning".
I looked at the elevator buttons in front of me, two and seven were lit.
I felt a stare, so I looked up and saw that he was staring at me. He caught himself doing so and turned his head immediately.
I looked back in front of me and saw the screen changing from an arrow up to 2.
He looked at me once again, so I looked back and he said with a smile: "Have a great day at work."
I replied the same with a smile. He swiftly turned around and... There it was, the thing that made me laugh in my mind the entire morning! The elevator door wasn't completely open yet and he almost clashed with his face and complete body against the door. He made a step backwards just in time. He smiled akwardly, while he stepped out of the elevator.
The elevator door closed.
I looked at the woman in the elevator. She said: "That was a close call."
I smiled: "Yes, it was."
Shoe sales man
That afternoon, I was shopping for something and nothing. I saw that a certain shoe shop I liked changed their entire inside interior. It intrigued me. The walls were filled with stacked shoe boxes and the shelves were filled with shoes. Also there were rustic lamps hanging from the ceiling. A tall man, a sales man, wearing a suit walked towards me. I stared at him with a smile, then I stared at the shoes. I saw him manoeuvre away from me. I ignored him, because the main things were the shoes not him. At the end of the row of shoes at the back of the store. I turned around. I saw the same sales man turn ninety degrees away from me and touching his hair on the back of his head. Then he spotted a lady walking into the store. He walked up to her and asked whether she needed help. She didn't. In the meanwhile, I was walking back to the entrance while I looked at other shoes. He turns around and almost clashed against me. He said almost stammering: "Sorry, lady!"
He smiled akwardly and walked around me. I realised than how tall he was, he was almost 2 meters tall! But at the same time I smiled and laughed in my mind, because the almost clash reminded me of the incident that happened in the morning.
Line of today: Even men in suits are just men?
